The Impact Award board of directors has suspended this year’s Impact Award due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the accompanying uncertainty in the next few months.
The reasons are several: libraries, where nomination papers are located, have been shuttered; people are encouraged to remain in their homes; the size of gatherings has been limited; and the time “normalcy” will return is unknown. The award is usually presented in late May or early June.
Mary Weaver, a member of the board said, “The Bell Tower Festival has been delayed and the Impact Award presentation is earlier than that. We felt it would not be appropriate to just announce a winner without a ceremony to honor an individual or group for years of volunteerism in the county.”
The original deadline for award nominations was to be April 18. Those who have nominations filled out should go ahead and submit them. They will be held by the committee and considered by the board next year when the Impact Award resumes.
